Why there are numbers on this page
Most appliance repair companies keep quiet about money until somebody is already in your kitchen with a toolbag, which is precisely when you have the least room to say no. You should be able to work out roughly what this will cost at your own kitchen table, with nobody waiting on an answer.
What the figures on this page are, and are not
They are starting prices drawn from real the East Bay repairs, per problem and per appliance. They are not a quote. What you actually pay turns on the brand, the part and the access that particular machine needs, and it is in writing before anything comes apart.
What moves the price
- The appliance. A refrigeration column screwed into joinery is an hour of careful work at each end before a part is touched.
- The brand. Professional and imported makes carry dearer parts, and some of them are a special order rather than a shelf item.
- The part itself. A thermal cutout and a control board take the same half hour and land nowhere near each other on the invoice.
- Access. A stacked pair in a hall closet, or a cooktop bedded into stone, takes longer to reach and longer to put back square.
What never moves
The price you approved. Nothing joins the invoice later, and no work starts that you have not agreed to. Should a second problem turn up behind the first, the tools go down and you get a phone call.
